Angus MacRae is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist whose work moves seamlessly between records, experimental live performance and scores for theatre, dance and film. His music resists easy categorisation, although it sits broadly at the intersection of classical and electronic music, with improvisation often at its heart.
Known for his distinctive sense of musical world-building, his work is often deeply conceptual, exploring themes of memory and imagination. Across a number of acclaimed albums and EPs, his music has reached a global audience.
His numerous scores have been performed and screened internationally at leading venues including the National Theatre, Almeida Theatre, BAM, London’s West End and on Broadway. He has collaborated with directors including Dominic Cooke, Rebecca Frecknall and Lyndsey Turner, and with musicians including Michael Winograd, Natalia Tsupryk and the Balanescu Quartet.
Raised on a small island in the middle of the sea, he now lives and works in London.
